Sustainable gardening: how old banana leaves are put to great use in Vietnam

We all know that English weather does not result in a lot of gardening during the winter! While in SE Asia on a search for warm weather before the busy Spring-time back home, I came across this lady peacefully and studiously creating plant pots for seedlings. The location was a village in the Mekong Delta in the south of Vietnam. She used discarded banana leaves, rolled them into shape, and pinned them with a small piece of bamboo, just like a cocktail stick. A fantastically sustainable way to create little plant pots. 2015/02/img_6550-2.jpg 2015/02/img_6547-0.jpg 2015/02/img_6549-0.jpg 2015/02/img_6548-0.jpg
